Seasonal party plan

A Halloween Password Party Game in Three Short Rounds

Give one-word clues for pumpkins, costumes, and other Halloween words. This ready-to-adapt plan includes three eight-word rounds and a gentle autumn alternative. It works with paper cards or a custom PlayPassword game; no acting or alphabet-wheel rules are required.

A 20-minute party schedule

These timings are a hosting plan, not a promised game duration. Stop after two rounds if guests want a shorter activity. For paper play, one point per solved word is simple; explain the different built-in scoring if using PlayPassword Classic.

  1. Before guests arrive: pick two or three rounds below. Put the secret words on covered cards or enter them in your game. Keep the host’s clue key private.
  2. Minutes 0–3: split into two teams and demonstrate Pumpkin → Orange. Explain one-word clues, one guess per turn, and no spelling or word parts.
  3. Minutes 3–8: play the familiar fall round. Change clue-givers after each solved or passed word.
  4. Minutes 8–13: play the costume round. Offer a practice turn to anyone who has not given a clue.
  5. Minutes 13–18: use the mystery round only if the group wants it. Otherwise replay with the autumn replacements.
  6. Minutes 18–20: finish the current word, tally the agreed score, and let everyone suggest a favorite clue.

Make a gentler autumn version

Ask the host what is appropriate for the group before picking the words. Replace the mystery round with Scarecrow → Field, Acorn → Oak, Sweater → Warm, Hayride → Wagon, Corn → Cob, Boots → Mud, Squirrel → Nuts, and Pie → Crust. You can also replace Skeleton, Witch, or any other word without affecting the format.

For mixed ages, preview a few answers and pair a younger guesser with a patient clue-giver. A word is not “easy” if someone does not know it. Avoid eliminations that make a missed guess end a player’s turn for the whole evening.

If guests know the sample clues, let them invent fresh ones. Do not use Halloween costumes, gestures, or pointed objects as extra clues unless the whole group has chosen that variation.

Keep the game separate from the answer sheet

Print word cards for clue-givers or keep your device facing away from guessers. A host clue key is preparation material, not a screen to project. On a video call, test the player-facing display before the first round.

In PlayPassword, sign in and manually add the selected secret words. Classic lets players make their own clues; Host Mode supports prepared clues. This page supplies the plan and words, not a preloaded Halloween pack. Account and plan limits apply.
